The other day I decided to get some summer cherries and make a tart for parents. We don’t have a cherry pitter and I’m not exactly a pro at it so the job was a little messier than I intended. About half way through I realized my fingers were a deep reddish-purple and excepted that they would probably be stained the rest of the day. It turned out to be worth it.
I recently moved back home and working in my mom’s kitchen has been amazing. I usually shy away from baking because I suck at it and it’s so much more difficult without a mixer or food processor! But making this pastry dough was worlds easier with a food processor at hand and I will definitely be baking more in the near future. I have to admit that I usually have to make a second batch of dough after messing up the first one (I’m seriously that bad), but not this time! It was super simple and I was pretty proud of myself
Using ricotta as the filling for this tart makes it really light and relatively healthy. I always try to have ricotta on hand cause it’s so versatile. My parents used to make it a lot when i was growing up, but this is store-bought. I’ll have to try and make some soon and let you guys know how it turns out.
After a long time being away from the kitchen and my camera it feel really awesome to get back into the swing of things. I’m creating this blog in hopes that it will keep me motivated and on track with my goals. I graduated from the University of Kansas this May with a BFA in Photo Media and my photography professor encouraged me to continue photographing even if it’s just once a week. So that’s what I plan on doing. Despite working a full-time non-photo related job, I plan on making time at least once a week to make something,photograph it, and post about it. So hold me accountable!
Oh… and this is Nico. He’s normally in the kitchen with me during shoot waiting for me to drop something on the floor. You’ll be seeing a lot of him :)
